What is a Giclée?
A fine art Giclée is created from the artist's original artwork. An extremely high resolution digital image of the artwork is made, then loaded into specially enhanced printers that output the digital image onto canvas or fine art paper (much like watercolor paper). Since the digital image includes every subtlety and nuance of the original - including the smallest details of light and shadow such as the textures of the paint and canvas or paper - the fine art Giclée is often indistinguishable from the original work of art. Brush strokes have the appearance of brush strokes, even though they are only two dimensional images on the canvas. Do Giclée printers use ordinary printers inks? No. They use special light-fast inks, which, if kept out of the sun, will remain true for up to 75 years. How is the Image of the Original Painting Captured? While some artists have their work photographed for reproduction, I am able to get a much higher resolution image by having the original piece scanned on a flatbed scanner, therefore capturing the finest detail of the painting right down to the weave of the canvas. Canvas or Paper? When you order a giclée on canvas, it comes stretched on wood stretcher bars just like the original oil painting would be. It is then coated with a UV blocking finish. When you order a Giclée on Fine Art Paper, the piece will still have the detail and look of the original Oil Painting, but is printed on paper much like Watercolor Paper. The piece is then rolled in a large crush resistant tube for shipping. Quality & Care The Inks, fine art paper used in the creation of your Giclée are of the highest quality available and have been Wilhelm tested to resist fading for many years. To increase the longevity of your Giclée or original oil painting, do not expose to direct sunlight or excessive moisture. Gallery Wrap Canvas Also, large original oils are well suited for Gallerywrap canvas & are painted around the edges as well.. Please feel free to contact Jeff with any questions or concerns... |
